Meet the artists who are redefining the tradition of knit and crochet, bringing yarn out of the house and into the world. Reinventing our relationship with this colorful tradition, YARN weaves together wool graffiti artists, circus performers, and structural designers into a visually-striking look at the women who are making a creative stance while building one of modern art’s hottest trends.
Co-sponsored by Vineyard Knitworks
Vineyard Knitworks, celebrating our eighth year in Vineyard Haven, in the heart of the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard. We support the revitalization of one of the Island’s most historically important industries: the local fibers and wool that come from our island shepherds and their great variety of sheep. We also love color, and our vision is carried out through our own dyed rovings and yarn and the amazing fibers that we source from independent dyers and small ecologically sensitive companies in the US, Peru and Europe.
“The film offers fascinating insight into what yarn can do in the talented hands of those determined to elevate mere craft to high art.” -Amy Brady, Village Voice
“Setting out to show the range of expression found in a field of craft it feels is too often dismissed as a trivial women’s pastime, Una Lorenzen’s Yarn showcases four artists doing things with crochet your spinster great-aunt probably never imagined.” -John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter
