We’re Open: Now, the New Normal

Dear MV Film Society Friends,

I trust you are staying healthy and doing all you can to enjoy a fine autumn as we head into the holiday season.

The Film Society now operates under a new normal, but our mission hasn’t changed: using the power of film, the performing arts, and collaborations to inspire, enlighten, and entertain you. The need for community, the arts, and dialogue will continue on the other side of this pandemic. We plan to be there for you—but to ensure that we need your continued support.

Please consider an end-of-year contribution to help the MV Film Society weather these uncertain times.

Because of you, the MV Film Center has grown into much more than a movie house. As multiplexes close their doors this year, your support makes it possible for us to stay open for safe and sanitary in-theatre viewing and also provide for you new film releases to watch at home. In 2020, despite the pandemic, we still held all six of our annual film festivals using an in-theatre/online hybrid model, connecting you with the world of cinema you’ve come to love.

This past summer, due to the Film Center closure, we collaborated with Featherstone to bring our community fun and safe outdoor movies. Several filmmakers (Julie Taymor, Amy Schumer) even dropped by.

What’s ahead for the MV Film Society in the next 9 to 12 months?

We’re staying open and adapting, with socially distanced seating, thorough between-show cleaning, a mask mandate, and more, so you can take in new films or encore performances of the Met Opera, National Live Theater, and other world arts events. We plan to keep collaborating with other Island nonprofits and island schools whenever that can be done safely. Finally, with an eye towards 2021, we are planning more outdoor events in addition to our successful Featherstone outdoor movie collaboration.

Help us reach our fundraising goal!

Thank You to all those members of the Film Center family who have already contributed this year either online or via mail.

Our goal represents our next five months (through to May 1st 2021) of Fixed Expenses ($130,885) to sustain our current staff and programming and education at the Film Center and Online. I hope you can help us reach out goal.

If you have not yet made your charitable donation to the Film Society this year, please note that it’s easier than ever to receive a tax benefit for your gift. Under the CARES Act, taxpayers can take a deduction of up to $300 for cash donations made in 2020, even if you choose not to itemize your income tax return.
