IN HONOR OF HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Followed by a discussion with actor/co-director Mosiah Moonsammy and Nydia Simone of Blactina Media

LAST BODEGA IN BROOKLYN is a digital series about an Afro-latino family in Brooklyn that runs a bodega in their neighborhood. A new organic store owner moves across the street with plans of expanding his empire and taking over the bodega. This Brooklynite Tribe must band together to save their business and community from being gentrified. We’re creating a new perspective of gentrification by giving voice to underrepresented culture, afro-latinos, through the lens of disappearing hallmark of New York City, the bodega.

Q and Noelle manage their parents bodega. Q is a music producer who envisions himself as the next P Diddy and Noelle is a neighborhood girl who wants to innovate her parents’ store.

El Negro is a new organic store owner in the neighborhood with intentions of expanding his empire across the street. El Negro slithers his way into the bodega and threatens Q and Noelle’s store front.

The siblings set aside any quarrels that they have and prepare for battle. The neighborhood gets introduced to unexpected characters as Noelle and Q play defense to protect their families legacy. They must also play offense to drive in a new demographic of customers to ensure a bodega will be around for future generations.

Mosiah Moonsammy received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida International University in 2009.
