A Film series focusing on LGBTQ+ stories, voices, issues and creators, in honor of PRIDE MONTH

L’IMMENSITÁ

Clara (Penélope Cruz) and Felice struggle to raise their three children in 1970s Rome. The eldest, Andrew, is transgender and yearns for another life where he gets to live as the boy he knows himself to be. Clara instinctively strives to protect her son by escaping into their imaginations to defuse family tensions. L’immensita is a creative and moving film about growing up and breaking the mold.

Followed by a discussion with Katie Perez, a clinician at the Island Counseling Center. Katie earned a Masters in Counseling at the California Institute of Integral Studies with a concentration in Somatic Psychotherapy. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California and a licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts. Her primary focus is working with children, adolescents and families. Past pursuits and current passions include the healing arts and dance.

“Crialese intermingles the story’s heavier stuff with a lively sense of childlike wonder … Cruz delivers a powerful performance as the exceptionally kind but increasingly frayed Clara, but the standout is Giuliani.” – Pat Brown, Slant

“L’immensità Is a Trans Coming-of-Age Marvel From 1970s Italy. I have seen several trans coming-of-age films — few with this amount of specificity, nuance, and imagination.” – Drew Burnett Gregory, Autostraddle

“A love letter to its characters and their real-life counterparts, the film is, above all, a witness to the kind of expansive love and kinship that is formed in the margins but nonetheless expansive in its imaginings of the world.”
– Sarah-Tai Black, Los Angeles Times
