DOC WEEK OPENING NIGHT – RECEPTION AT 6:30 PM IN FILM CENTER LOBBY

David Behnke (Baritone) accompanied by Molly Sturges on the keyboard will sing for us prior to the screening.

From the filmmaking team behind the highly-acclaimed documentary The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years, PAVAROTTI is a riveting film that lifts the curtain on the icon who brought opera to the people. Academy Award (R) winner Ron Howard puts audiences front row center for an exploration of The Voice…The Man…The Legend. Luciano Pavarotti gave his life to the music and a voice to the world. This cinematic event features history-making performances and intimate interviews, including never-before-seen footage and cutting-edge Dolby Atmos technology.

David Behnke (Baritone) is a frequent performer on the Martha’s Vineyard musical scene. A
graduate of the Masters Degree Opera Program at the Yale School of Music, he was a finalist in
the Boston Opera Company Young Artist Auditions, received a fellowship to the Paris
Conservatory of Music, and was a resident artist with the Tri-Cities Opera Company. He
performed with musical festivals across New England. Since moving to the Vineyard full-time
six years ago (after a brief 30-year hiatus on Wall Street), he has performed regularly in
repertoire ranging from opera to lieder to oratorio to musical theater. He is a frequent soloist
with the Island Community Chorus and other choral groups, performed with Island Theater
Workshop (Beast: Beauty and the Beast; Emile: South Pacific), and is an active recitalist. David
appears regularly with the Wicked Good Musical Revues at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse
and “off season” at La Soffitta’s “Sunday Night at the Opera”.

Molly Sturges is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. She has performed as a freelance
musician and accompanist to many organizations across New England. She has been a principal
keyboardist for the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut since 2001. After moving to
Martha’s Vineyard full time, she has been active with a broad spectrum of the island musical
community as orchestral keyboardist, accompanist, and soloist.

“It’s an engaging film, filled with vintage snapshots, interviews with friends and former colleagues, and, most of all, that marvelously distinctive voice, with all the emotion it could convey.” – St. Louis Post-Dispatch

“Ron Howard’s documentary doesn’t just make you miss the singer. It makes you miss, of all things, a robust music industry.” – RogerEbert.com
