Documentary films have become the conscience of the nation, providing a deeper study of contemporary, and often unnoticed, social issues. By using the unique medium of film, documentarians are able to cultivate more compelling and fruitful discussion by mixing strongly-drive narratives with vivid imagery. In lieu of the rise of the documentary, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society is proud to announce its second annual Documentary Week and Conference from August 1st through August 5th, 2016.
By conducting panels and one-on-one sessions before and after nightly screenings, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society is able to pair local experts with Island audiences in an effort to crystallize the informations presented in each film. Because these issues will, in some respects, be framed in the context of local, Island issues, audience participation is a key component of the weeklong conference and is highly encouraged.
