Rediscovered Noir

New Yorker cartoonist, Paul Karasik has chosen three great examples of Film Noir that are even better shown on the BIG screen at the MV Film Center– DOUBLE INDEMNITY, IN A LONELY PLACE, and SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS.
DOUBLE INDEMNITY seethes with lust and vengeance, featuring Fred MacMurray and the sultry Barbara Stanwyck with “an unholy love and an almost perfect crime.” A pivotal film that some deem the first film noir, “Double Indemnity” crackles with witty dialogue as the sparks fly. Lust, murder, and a beautiful dame: That’s film noir, folks.

“Few other directors have made so many films that were so taut, savvy, cynical and, in many different ways and tones, funny.” -Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
