Woody Allen turns once again to drama (and the United States) after a string of comedy hits set all over Europe.  This film features numerous heavy hitters, with Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett in the title role as Jasmine – a New York housewife whose world is blown apart by a devious lover.  She is forced to relocate to her sister’s home in San Francisco, where she deals with the fallout of a nervous breakdown.

“In all, this is the strongest, most resonant movie Woody Allen has made in years.”

David Denby, New Yorker

“The movie’s observations about economic disparity are cloaked in zestful comedy that’s broad or stiletto-sharp.”

Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal
