On Saturday, March 31 at 6:30PM 105.5 FM, WYOB (MVRHS student-run station) and the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society collaborate with the showing of “The Mighty Quinn”, a thriller filmed in Jamaica starring Denzel Washington, Robert Townsend and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Reviews say, “The Mighty Quinn is smart, pleasant entertainment offering an early example of Denzel Washington’s onscreen magnetism” and Film critic Roger Ebert called it one of the best films of 1989 describing it as “a deft hybrid of laughs, espionage, and music.”

This is the third year the MV Film Society and WYOB have jointly hosted a fundraiser featuring a Jamaican themed movie, consistent with the WYOB reggae music format. The first was The Harder They Come, starring Jimmy Cliff (whose birthday falls on April 1st ) in 2016. Last year the movie was the celebrated documentary Marley, featuring the story of Bob Marley’s life.

Vineyard Haven clothing store The Green Room is sponsoring the event that begins with a reception catered by Vineyard Caribbean, the Island’s new Jamaican restaurant.

"With Fancher's dialogue and Washington's comedic timing, The Mighty Quinn is more fun than a cabana full of bananas."--Rita Kempley, Washington Post
