Starring Liudmila Konovalova as Clara, and Vladimir Shishov as Drosselmeier and The Prince. From the Vienna Staatsballett.

The Nutcracker, certainly the most performed work in the ballet literature and one which has become a central experience for generations of ballet audiences. Choreographed by Rudolf Nureyev in 1967, this version holds a special place in the performance history of the Tchaikovsky classic as it takes up psychological aspects of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story between reality and dream. Staged in 1985 by Nureyev for the Paris Opera Ballet of which he was director at the time, this Nutcracker is also closely linked to the dance career of Manuel Legris. With this production of The Nutcracker he continues his cultivation of Nureyev’s choreographic legacy that began with the revival of Don Quixote.
