Eminent American film executive Harvey Weinstein acquired US rights to French director Jalil Lespert’s biopic of a legendary fashion designer, amounting to the extraordinary new film Yves Saint Laurent.  Partially shot at the designer’s atelier in Paris, this film captures the true essence of both the designer’s genius and personal struggles with mental illness and drug abuse.  According to Weinstein himself, “Yves Saint Laurent’s unmatched vision, ambition and business savvy continue to spark intrigue in the eyes of the world. The personal and business relationship shared between him and Pierre Bergé only added further depth to his story.” The film is told from the point of view of Bergé, Laurent’s business and life partner, who proved a great asset to the project, providing over 75 ensembles. Lespert accentuates the fashion icon’s darker side while still carefully chronicling his epic rise to fame and intertwining the ever-changing roles of his personal relationships in this fantastic new drama.
