Abdellatif Kechiche’s newest film, based on Julie Maroh’s graphic novel, was the sensation of this year’s Cannes Film Festival even before it was awarded the Palme d’Or. Adèle Exarchopoulos is Adèle, a young woman whose longings and ecstasies and losses are charted across a span of several years. Léa Seydoux (Midnight in Paris) is Emma, the older woman who excites her desire and becomes the love of her life. Kechiche’s movie is, like the films of John Cassavetes, an epic of emotional transformation.

“A star is born – absolutely astonishing.”

Variety, Scott Foundas

“Magnificent… we were under the spell of the film and its wonderful actresses.”

– Steven Spielberg, Cannes Jury President and Filmmaker

“Many words can — and will — be spent on “Blue Is the Warmest Color,” but for now I’ll settle for just one: glorious.”

The New York Times

“Remarkable… The first great love story of the 21st Century.”

– Andrew O’Hehir, Salon
