The latest installment in Richard Linklater’s “Before” series, this film finds its protagonists, Celine and Jesse, in Greece.  As ever, they explore the idyllic European setting while also looking inward, at themselves and their relationship.  Linklater’s script is enlivened by the history shared not only between the characters, but by the actors themselves.  We have watched them grow older as we have grown older; they began in “Before Sunrise” as two young strangers, engaging in the dance of romantic courtship and uncertainty.  Nine years later, in “Before Sunset,” Jesse and Celine had separately entered a new phase, only to come together to search for a meaning to their lives in another person.  Here, in “Before Midnight,” that search continues and, possibly, finds its resolution.

“Whatever a modern love story is, Before Midnight takes it to the next level. It’s damn near perfect.”

–Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

“If the first two films belong with the greatest (if talkiest) movie romances of all time, the new film is richer, riskier, and more bleakly perceptive about what it takes for love to endure (or not) over the long haul.”

–Ty Burr, The Boston Globe
