Bass René Pape, the world’s reigning Boris, reprises his overwhelming portrayal of the tortured tsar caught between grasping ambition and crippling paranoia, kicking off the Live in HD season on October 9, 2021. Conductor Sebastian Weigle leads Mussorgsky’s masterwork, a pillar of the Russian repertoire, in its original 1869 version. Stephen Wadsworth’s affecting production poignantly captures the hope and suffering of the Russian people as well as the tsar himself. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.

The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of live high-definition cinema simulcasts is returning for it’s 14th season. The 2021-22 Live in HD season of movie theater transmissions begins on October 9th with BORIS GODUNOV featuring Conductor Sebastian Weigle leading Mussorgsky’s masterwork.

The 2021-22 Live in HD season features ten transmissions, All live performances begin at 12:55 pm Eastern Time on Saturdays.

The Met: Live in HD is the largest provider of alternative cinema content in the world, with more than 24 million tickets sold since the inception of the series in 2006. The series brings live Met performances to more than 2,200 movie theaters and performing arts centers in more than 70 countries.

Season at a Glance: The Met: Live in HD 2021-22

The Live in HD season will begin on Saturday, October 9th at 12:55 PM with Boris Godunov. Future transmissions are as follows: Fire Shut Up In My Bones (October 23rd at 12:55PM); Eurydice (December 4th at 12:55PM); Cinderella – Holiday Presentation (January 1st 12:55PM); Rigoletto (January 29th at 12:55PM); Ariadne Auf Naxos(March 12th at 12:55PM); Don Carlos (March 26th at 12:55PM); Turandot (May 7th at 12:55PM); Lucia di Lammermoor (May 21st at 12:55PM); and Hamlet (June 4th at 12;55PM).
