Welcome to the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center
Established in February 2002, the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, Inc. is a member-funded 501 (c)(3) non-profit arts organization dedicated to screening the best in independent films, movie classics, documentaries, and world cinema for diverse audiences of all ages throughout the calendar year.
In September of 2012 the MVFS proudly completed the construction of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center, which houses the Marilyn Meyerhoff Theatre, a state of the art digital cinema and stage with 177 stadium configured seats.
In 2015, the MVFS collaborated with the MV Theater Foundation to re-open the historic Capawock and Strand Movie Theaters in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. The Film Society now operates both theaters from May to December each year.
Although offering an enriched film program is the primary reason the MVFS exists, the Society also presents film-related speakers, educational and youth programs, and special live performing arts events to enhance this main mission all while increasing the public’s appreciation of fine cinema in all of its forms.
Since opening in 2002, the MVFS has presented over 1000 feature and short films and welcomes over 50,000 patrons annually to its three film venues. The Film Society also produces the annual MV Environmental Film Festival in May, FILMUSIC Festival in June, DOC Week in August, and the Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival in September.
