Rediscovered Noir

New Yorker cartoonist, Paul Karasik has chosen three great examples of Film Noir that are even better shown on the BIG screen at the MV Film Center– DOUBLE INDEMNITY, IN A LONELY PLACE, and SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS.
IN A LONELY PLACE may feature Humphrey Bogart’s greatest performance. If you think you know Bogie from “the Maltese Falcon” or “The African Queen”, get prepared for a much more nuanced and darker Bogart as failed screenwriter, Dixon Steele in a doomed romance with the luscious, Gloria Grahame. Surely one of director, Nicholas Ray’s greatest films.

KARASIK Paul010Paul Karasik has selected these films as prime examples of Must-See Film Noir. Paul is an Eisner Award winning cartoonist whose work has appeared in the New Yorker and whose graphic novels have been translated world-wide. He is the Development Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School and lives in West Tisbury.
