French writer-director Sylvain Chomet creates a whimsical story about a piano prodigy, Paul, who lives a completely sheltered existence, cut off from the outside world, due to his domineering, aristocratic aunts.

His life consists solely of constant piano practice, until he meets his eccentric neighbor Madame Proust and his entire world is turned upside down.  Madame Proust helps Paul uncover the secrets of his own past, particularly the truth about what happened to his parents, through the combination of music and a hallucinogenic herbal tea recipe.

The lively music, vivacious dance sequences and vibrant production design together generate a captivating, feel-good film about growing up and the power of memory.

“A live-action feature about memories that beautifully evokes films and songs from the past.” -Boyd Van Hoeij HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

“It’s impossible not to be charmed by the off-kilter comedy, and by Chomet’s penchant for slyly juxtaposing a highly stylized real world with an even more stylized imaginary world.” -Brendan Kelly MONTREAL GAZETTE
