Our Mission

Combining the laid back beach style of the island of Martha’s Vineyard, a passionate audience of film and culture enthusiasts with the buzz and excitement of a festival celebrating films from across the globe – The Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival is an amazing experience not to be missed. Come and join us for 6 days in September.

Overview

THE FILMS: The 2014 Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival will present a selection of films from around the globe by International filmmakers. Films drawn from top-notch festivals like Sundance, Berlin, and Cannes, with a few surprises thrown in.

CONVERSATIONS: The movies are just the beginning. Making our festival unique we’ll bring guests from film, media, politics, and art worlds to celebrate, discuss and debate the films’ issues.

WALKING FESTIVAL DISTRICT: Meet the filmmakers, attend special events, cocktail parties, artist showcases, and live music at the festival. Check out the great local shops and restaurants. Enjoy the island’s amazing beaches and relaxed charm.

THE ISLAND EXPERIENCE: Although most of the festival will take place in village of Vineyard Haven, there will be plenty of opportunity to explore our other Island towns and natural beauty. Martha’s Vineyard is the perfect location for our multi-day festival, with its amazing beaches, sunsets, spectacular chefs, unique shops, and highly influential community.

While you’re here, take advantage of what the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard has to offer. September is a perfect time to visit the island and to compliment the film festival’s myriad of activities and events, visitors should take advantage of island landmarks, such as the charming historic lighthouses, katama airfield and the flying horses carousel.  Merely grabbing an ice cream cone and walking down the streets of any town on the island will provide a sense of the unique culture and serene vibe that the island offers.

Come one come all – enjoy an incredible, diverse set of film screenings and events at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society’s 9th annual International Film Festival September 4-7, 2014 and experience all that the beautiful island has to offer.

Festival Difference

What makes our festival different? It’s community-oriented programming inspired by the World around us.  Martha’s Vineyard is a special place and we have designed programs to give back to the community, including promoting commerce in downtown Vineyard Haven and across the Island. We are working with local merchants to create a community celebration that will go hand-in-hand with our festivities.

We also work to develop Island artists: The Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival has partnered with local filmmakers (novice and pro) and giving them a    chance to participate in the festival by submitting their work inspired by the theme “Think Globally, Shoot Locally.” In 2009, two of those festival “works-in-progress” MOW CREW and HOUSE OF BONES went on to have their island premieres in cooperation with the MV Film Society.

For more details and information on how to submit your local short film or work-in-progres – please contact info@mvfilmsociety.com

Our Festival is also cooperating with various Island non-profit on events/films that  focus light on their mission and community services. Contact us if your organization      is interested in collaborating, at info@mvfilmsociety.com

Festival Host

The Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival is presented by the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society. The Film Society presents award-winning feature films, documentaries, animation, and shorts from around the world, paired with topical speakers throughout the year. We aim to bring together people of all ages, foster appreciation of the world’s diversity and stimulate discussion through the universal language of film. The Martha’s Vineyard Film Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

Since 2002, when he founded the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, Richard Paradise has been actively involved in the promotion and exhibition of independent and international films on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. The Martha’s Vineyard Film Society has become a much loved year-round arts organization screening over 200 films annually, with a membership of over 1400 and annual patronage of over 25,000.
