Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theatre will present a special live ‘preview’ performance by WT DOT singers, Monday July 21 thirty minutes before Opera in Cinema Pucinni’s Manon Lescaut beginning at 7:00 PM

Puccini’s first triumph returns to Covent Garden for the first time in 30 years in a new staging by Jonathan Kent.Puccini’s sumptuous, richly-coloured score is characterized by youthful vitality and filled with glorious melodies. Despite a troubled gestation (five librettists were engaged in the project), the premiere of Manon Lescaut in 1893 was Puccini’s first major triumph – a hit with critics and the public alike.

Manon is on her way to a convent when she meets the young student Des Grieux. The pair fall in love and escape to Paris, but when the elderly Geronte offers Manon a life of wealth and luxury, her head is turned.

Leading tenor of today Jonas Kaufmann stars in a brand new production of Manon Lescaut alongside Kristine Opolais.

Opolais made her debut with the MET in the 2012/13 season in La Rondine to rave reviews so a chance for American audiences to see her in this exciting new production from Jonathan Kent

Conducted by Antonio Pappano

“Massenet’s sumptuously romantic epic of doomed love returns to Covent Garden.”
